Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Unique one-piece distilling condenser is actually a 75º adapter, highly efficient coil condenser and vacuum adapter in a compact one-piece unit. Available with a choice of three sizes of condensers with uptake inner joint as listed. Top thermometer joint is a 10/30 outer for use with a 3in immersion CG-3506 thermometer. Receiver joint on all sizes is a 24/40 inner having a sealed-in drip tip.

Available with Vigreux indentations in uptake tube to further increase the performance of the head. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accept a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.

Probe adapters & compression fittings. Bellco compression fittings are designed using our standard 45 mm blue polypropylene open top caps and white silicone gaskets. A wide variety of fittings are available to allow pH and do monitoring via insertion of these probes into the sidearms of vessels. Bellco probe adapters are designed to allow introduction of threaded probes into vessels through 200 mm stainless steel headplate or a 45 mm vertical sidearm. Ace Glass, Inc. Congealing temperature distillation apparatus
ACE congealing temperature distillation apparatus, which is similar to that described in U.S. Pharmacopeia, 1995, page 1780. The ACE apparatus is supplied with Ace-Threds in place of rubber stoppers, where practical. A #50 thread at center holds a test tube with a #25 bushing, and the open-top test tube utilizes a rubber stopper to secure a thermometer and wire stirrer. The apparatus has a #7 Ace-Thred thermometer port on one side, and a 22mm I.D. opening on the other side to access the 125mm O.D. x 150mm high cylinder. Applicable to substances that melt down between -20 to 150 degrees C.
